Our laboratory specialises in conducting molecular biology tests, catering to both research and diagnostic needs.

It is equipped with advanced instrumentation, including a GeneXpert machine, BioRad CFX96 real-time thermocyclers, SEEPREP32 semi-automated DNA/RNA extraction machines by Seegene, Bio-Safety level II Cabinets, and PCR cabinets with negative pressure, filters, and UV light.

Additionally, it houses essential facilities like -20°C and -80°C freezers, as well as 2-8°C fridges, alongside standard laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, minifuges, micropipettes, and heat blocks.

The GeneXpert machine is a sophisticated molecular diagnostic system designed to streamline and accelerate the detection of infectious diseases such as Tuberculosis, COVID-19, HPV, HIV viral load and many others.

The GeneXpert platform automates the entire process from sample preparation to detection, offering healthcare providers a powerful tool for timely diagnosis and management of various infectious diseases.

Our Real-time PCR platform utilises Seegene’s syndromic molecular testing kits that cover a wide range of infectious diseases, including respiratory infections, gastrointestinal illnesses, and bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The Allplex™ Respiratory Panel Assays can detect over 20 respiratory pathogens, facilitating rapid diagnosis of influenza, RSV, and coronaviruses. Similarly, the Allplex™ Gastrointestinal Panel Assays offer comprehensive testing for over 30 gastrointestinal pathogens, aiding in the swift identification of bacteria, viruses, and parasites commonly associated with gastrointestinal infections. In addition to respiratory and gastrointestinal infections, Seegene’s molecular diagnostic solutions extend to bacterial STIs, with specific panels targeting pathogens like Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and Mycoplasma genitalium.

The laboratory team is trained in Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP), and International Air Transport Association (IATA) regulations to ensure proficiency in their respective roles.

SPL staff adhere to stringent quality control measures at every stage of our processes. Our quality assurance program is comprehensive and ensures that we adhere to the highest standards, thereby delivering the highest level of service and confidence to our clients while upholding the integrity of our laboratory’s operations.

Infrastructure

All laboratory equipment undergoes timely calibration and servicing in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines to ensure optimal performance and reliability. SPL facility has backup power sources, including generators and uninterruptible power supply systems.

SPL utilises the Chiron Laboratory Information Management System, a web-based platform operating from a centralised cloud-hosted location, accessible to all depots, satellite laboratories, and clients. Chiron includes many features and streamlines specimen queries, test orders, and result reception from analysers, reducing errors and enhancing turnaround time for results.

The Vitek 2 Compact (30) is a compact version of the Vitek 2 automated system used for microbial identification and antibiotic susceptibility testing. It is designed to handle up to 30 microbial samples simultaneously, offering rapid and accurate results. This system utilises advanced technology to analyse bacterial and fungal cultures, providing healthcare professionals with crucial information for effective treatment decisions.

Sample Courier

SPL operates an in-house delivery system to transfer clinical samples from clients to the laboratory. Presently, the covered delivery vehicle is equipped with the following features:

  • Temperature-controlled refrigeration units
  • Vehicle kit containing first aid supplies, fire extinguisher, and spill kit
  • Proper placarding
  • Company logo and contact details

All drivers undergo GCP certification for the safe transportation of hazardous materials and infectious substances. Additionally, they have access to personal protective equipment as required. Our delivery system aims to serve a radius of up to 500 km.
